Malta Dayboat Route

by | May 2, 2023

Malta is a beautiful country in the Mediterranean, surrounded by other small islands which makes day charters some of the best activities to explore the Maltese Riviera. Comino is the closest island to Malta, and the perfect destination for snorkelling, while Gozo is larger and rich in history.

For the perfect day sailing in Malta, follow this dayboat route around the breathtaking islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino.

Valletta –> Mgarr

14 NM – 2 hours

Begin your charter from the largest harbour in Malta, Grand Harbour in Valletta, the capital of Malta. Once you set off from Valletta, the boat trip to Gozo is 2 hours, docking at Mgarr, the harbour of Gozo. Around the harbour, you will find some incredible restaurants and bars to have a drink, and the harbour is surrounded by beautiful mosaics to marvel at as you walk down the promenade.

If you are going to visit Gozo, you must visit the capital, Victoria, which is located at the centre of the island. After you have docked at the harbour, you can either hike the 6km distance which will take about an hour, which is an easy walk, or use public transport, which will take around 10 minutes. Once you are in Victoria, there are a lot of attractions to explore. Some of the best include visiting some of the historical sites of Gozo, including the Citadella, a fortress which used to be a castle and is one of the most famous sites in Gozo.

Mgarr –> Marsalforn

7.7 NM – 1 hour 15 minutes

Sail up the coast to visit the beautiful seaside town of Marsalforn, located on the north coast. Full of activity there is a lot to do in Marsalforn, the most popular being the beaches. Marsalforn Bay is a small sandy beach, however, you will find more beaches scattered all along the town, with activities such as snorkelling, diving, volleyball and sunloungers available. If you don’t want to enjoy the beach, there are a lot of popular dining areas around, as well as salt pans to visit. A small walk away from Xwejni Bay, the unique checkerboard salt pans are a marvel to see, and during the summer months, you can witness the salt being harvested once a week.

Marsalforn –> Wied Il-Mielah

2.5 NM – 25 minutes

A small boat ride away, visit the Wied Il-Ghasri a secluded islet with a pebbled beach and a beautiful canyon. Here you can see the Wied il-Mielah Window, a natural limestone arch, which you can access through the staircase located next to the arch. The area is also filled with underwater caves to discover and is a great area to explore by boat or by snorkelling.

Wied Il-Mielah –> The Blue Lagoon

11 NM – 1 hour 50 minutes

Leave the island of Gozo to visit the famous Blue Lagoon, located between the island of Comino and the islet of Cominotto. This natural swimming pool is one of the greatest places to swim and snorkel with crystal-clear waters, where you can witness an array of marine wildlife. This is a popular tourist destination and for good reason, with spots of sand to rest at, the lagoon is a beautiful spot to spend the rest of your day.

The Blue Lagoon –> Valletta

14 NM – 2 hours 20 minutes

Head back from the Blue Lagoon and finish your day in the harbour of Valletta, where the capital of Malta is filled with activities and restaurants to finish your dayboat route off well, which makes it one of the best places to visit in Malta.
