Need to know what to wear for a boat party?

by | Oct 26, 2018

What comes to the minds of many people when they are invited to a party is mainly not the venue but the fun, the thrill and the celebrations.

Considering that many parties happen in the evenings, people always think of evening wear and something that can look glamorous in the bright, rotating, disco lights.

Boat parties are different, can be more fun and can take place at any time of the day. Clothes for a boat party will be a little different from you would wear to an ordinary party.

Here are a few suggestions:

The nautical fashion

Since boat parties happen during the summer season, nautical fashion should be the first thing in your mind when you are invited to a boat party. The nautical colours of black, tan, blue and white will work wonders when dashed with some bright colours such as green, yellow and bright red. These are the colours that make you feel relaxed and looking all set to party.

Try the stripes

Pick one piece of a striped outfit and match it with a plain outfit for a wonderful sailing and boating experience. Unless a specific dress code has been proposed for the party, you can pair up your favourite jeans with a cool striped outfit, whether a blouse, shirt or t-shirt. For this look, red and white stripes, blue and white stripes and blue and white stripes will work just fine.

Linen

The favourite summer fabric for many people is linen. Linen clothes will keep you cool and classy, even when they get crumped up. Match the linens with some nautical shorts to bring out a cute, sailor-inspired look.

Flats

You can’t wear heels in yacht parties; therefore make sure your shoes are flat. Sneakers can work just fine but a boat shoe will be the most ideal choice. Some people wear sandals in such parties too, others go for flip-flops and others leather shoes especially for a dinner party in a boat. Just make sure that soles of your shoes are light coloured to avoid scuffing the boat deck.

A suit

Suits can easily be worn in a boat party but you have to ditch the tie and the blazer. For a shirt, go for a light material, maybe a cotton or linen shirt. Make it a little casual by unbuttoning the first couple of buttons, then match it up with your best pair of navy chinos or chino shorts. If the shirt is long sleeved, consider rolling the sleeves up, then rolling them down at nighttime.

Summer dresses

Girls will definitely want to wear their lovely, colourful summer dresses. The good thing with these dresses is that they come in different styles. A flowy dress, knee-length summer dress or an off-shoulder maxi dress will look lovely and at the same time allowing you to enjoy the sun. You can choose a dress shirt too. Get the right accessories to match with your dress and get ready to enjoy many boat day or night parties.

Bring a windbreaker

The weather can be unpredictable when you go boating and sometimes the chilly winds can make you a little uncomfortable. However warm it might be, don’t forget to bring a windbreaker or a light cover-up for the girls. Go for something colourful and sporty to complement your casual look.

The hat and sunglasses

These are a must have for any boat party to keep your skin and eyes well protected from the harsh sun rays. The sun can be very hot out there and the right hat will protect your skin as well as your hair from sun bleaching. A pair of sunglasses will not only protect your eyes but also give you a classy look.

Boat partying is a great way to enjoy an endless fun this summer. With the right semi-formal dress code, you can always feel comfortable and look the part in any kind of party. You do not need a specific boat party outfit when you can work with just what you already have.
