Exploring Malta in 7 Days

Exploring Malta is one of the most satisfying voyages that is surely topping sailors bucket lists everywhere. Discovering unspoiled beaches and secluded spots in translucent turquoise water is something we all dream about when we set sail.

For your next adventure out, we want to be sure you don’t miss out on any sights in this intriguing and versatile archipelago. Consequently, we have created our ideal, 7 day itinerary for sailing the flawless waters of Malta.

Day 1: Valletta and the Kalkara Marina

Valletta

For your first day, we highly recommend waking up early to the endless sunshine and discover a bit of the old city before hitting the waters. The history of Malta is highly reflected in the aesthetic of the city Valletta.

Located across from Valletta is Kalkara Creek, located in Malta’s Grand Harbour. Depart from here and truly admire the beauty and picturesque qualities from this specific region. Get to know your boat and take it easy on the tranquil waters.

Day 2: Kalkara Marina to Marsaxlokk

After relaxing on your first day, get ready to experience some of the most unique sightseeing that is only available by sailing on the southern coast of Malta. It’s not often you’ll sail by historic castles and other monuments that have defined the country’s personality, so make sure you have your camera in close reach.

While on your journey, make sure to take full advantage of the waters and stop for a quick dip in the flawless waters. Arrive at Marsaxlokk and experience one of Malta’s most traditional and exceptional fishing villages.

Day 3: Marsaxlokk to Golden Bay

One of the destinations you’ll hear the most about is Golden Bay. These perfect, sandy beaches will leave you in awe. Golden Bay is Blue Flag certified and is the perfect place to show off your water sport skills. The bay is also known for its convenience, but can be very busy during peak season so plan accordingly.

Day 4: Golden Bay to Comino

Comino

Just when you start doubting if Malta could be any more stunning, you come across the island of Comino. The island is frequented by tourists and locals alike, mostly for day trips, as it is inhabited by only a small amount of people.

The island does boast some of the best locations to snorkel and dive. From here, we will leave it to you to choose from St. Nicholas Bay, St. Mary’s Bay, or the classic Blue Lagoon. Better yet, indulge yourself and see all of the sights in this small, but lustrous island.

Day 5: Comino to Mgarr Harbour

Only a short distance from Comino is Gozo, the second largest island on the archipelago. Upon arrival to the Mgarr Harbour, you’ll sense a different feeling and atmosphere in the air. The island is undoubtedly more rural and its scenery is much greener than the main island.

When going into the harbour, there is a large possibility you would recognize it from a photograph or an art piece. Artists over the century have tried to capture its magnificent beauty time after time. Needless to say, you’ll know exactly the reason for this as soon as you see it.

Day 6: Mgarr Harbour to St. Paul’s Bay

Mgarr Harbour

On this second to last day, we highly suggest sailing around Gozo and finishing in St. Paul’s Bay. The coast is covered with incredible cliffs, caves and bays that are simply unimaginable. Aside from the natural beauty, you’ll be able to see ancient temples, old fortresses and endless caves.

Upon arrival at St. Paul’s Bay, which is located on the northern coast of the main island, you’ll experience a quieter environment. The area of St. Paul’s is known for being home to more locals and has historically been a fishing village just like Marsaxlokk. The tranquility and peace the area brings will be the perfect way to start ending your voyage.

Day 7: St. Paul’s Bay to Valletta

One of the many caves on the coast of Malta

On the last day of our 7 day itinerary, a short voyage from the northern coast to Valletta is just what you need. Just like the rest of the archipelago, the coasts will not disappoint you. With several bays and towers along the way, take your time and make sure to appreciate the last moments with the impeccable line of sight.

This ambitious, yet extremely rewarding and incredible voyage will stand out in your memories for years. The wonderful sights and transparent blue waters will make you immediately start looking at future dates to return. Rent a boat in Malta and explore the island from a different perspective.
