At SamBoat, we came up with a list of the 5 best anchorages in Italy that you can include in your upcoming boating journey!

Italy is full of wonderful places to visit, especially if you are looking forward to enjoying a bit of sun with incredible scenery and a taste of fascinating culture. Italy has got to be one of the best sailing destinations in the world. From its pretty little maritime ports and villages, to its small coves and lovely beaches. It has everything you might ever want on a yacht charter adventure in Italy.

Cinque terre

Cinque Terre is more than just a beautiful beach and a pretty little maritime village. It’s actually a string of 5 authentic coastal towns that you can explore by sailing along the coast. Located just north of la Spezia. This area includes some of the most beautiful towns in Italy, full of vibrant colours and small charming streets: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Monterosso al Mar and Vernazza. While navigating in Cinque Terre, it’s up to you to choose your favourite place to anchor.

Amalfi

Same as for Cinque Terre, the Amalfi coast is more than just a single town, and is concentrated with bursting Italian culture. This place easily makes our list of the best anchorages in Italy. It offers unique landscapes with dramatic cliffs and crystal clear water. Whether you want to visit some nice towns like Positano and Sorrento or go for a snorkelling session, the Amalfi coast is the perfect place to rent a boat and enjoy the sunshine. Find a quiet cove or a village of your choice and anchor there for a night. Not to mention, the area is also very close to Naples and the historical ruins of Pompeii.

Portofino

Portofino is a fishing village located south of Genoa. It’s a very famous place for its glamorous marina and it’s a good place to charter a yacht to start a week-long journey. If you decide to anchor in Portofino, make sure to go for a snorkelling session. Indeed, it is one of the best places to explore the mesmerising sea life of the mediterranean. From its marine parks with underwater wrecks and statues, to its incredible coral sea floors with a diverse ecosystem. Portofino is also very close to other top anchorages in Italy such as CInque Terre where you can taste local pesto and enjoy transparent waters.

Cala di luna

Head to the italian island of Sardinia for more paradisiac destinations and start your journey in Olbia. A few kilometres south, Cala di Luna is a seaside area with unique beaches distinguished by spacious natural caves along its coast. With turquoise waters and relaxing vibes, It’s a great place to enjoy a calm afternoon under the sun. The caves provide shelter from the heat on the golden sandy beaches and the bay also has stunning views of the mountain peaks in the background. All around, it is one of the best anchorages in Italy.

Porto cervo

Still in Sardinia, Porto Cervo offers quite the luxurious experience if you decide to anchor there on your yacht charter. With authentic bars, restaurants and beautiful marina, Porto Cervo is an experience itself. With amazing views, golden beaches and hidden spots, it’s a must see on your sailing itinerary in Italy. At the end of an unforgettable day exploring the coastline, anchor your boat in a calm cove. You can then enjoy the sun slowly disappearing in the horizon.
