by | Jan 10, 2023

Many of you may want to learn how to tie knots in the sea. In this article, Samboat illustrates how to make the main marine knots. Mastering these knots is essential for anyone who wants to navigate in the sea. They are mainly used to berth your ship in a port or perform simple operations.

If you are sailing without a captain, you must understand the basics of navigation. It is important to tie the correct marine knots on the boat, because they can withstand strong pressure and are easy to untie when there’s a problem.

The following are the 5 basic knots that must be mastered to become a true captain.

  1. The eight knot

The eight knot is the first knot should be learned when sailing. It is knotted at the end of the rope to prevent the rope from falling off the pulley. This is a knot that is easy to recognize because it is shaped like an eight.

Sailors use it to prevent ropes from passing through pulleys. It can withstand a lot of pressure and can be separated quickly.

2. The chair knot

The chair knot is the second most famous and most commonly used knot by sailors. In fact, it allows you to use a closed loop lanyard. The advantage of this kind of knot is that it forms a mouth that does not shrink and can then be untied.

This marine knot can be used in many different ways, including raising a sail or connecting two ropes. The chair knot can be tied in many ways. Remember the most common technical memo for this knotting technique is this sentence: “The snake goes out of the well and goes around the tree.” The well is realized by the snake at the end of the loop and the rope.

3. The capstan knot

This knot is also useful because it allows you to quickly hook a line to a point without having to loop. It is especially used to suspend them by threshing to protect ships.

Please note that this knot may slip off, we recommend that you use a half-key to secure it.
