Lefkada is one of the most popular of the Ionian Islands, and one of the reasons for this is the beautiful beaches which Lefkada is known for. With the number of beaches on the island, there is a place for every type of beach lover, from the ones who love swimming in the ocean to the ones who enjoy sunbathing on a secluded beach. If you are going to sail around Lefkada, you can’t miss these 5 beaches.

Porto Katsiki

The most famous of the beaches, Porto Katsiki is located close to the village of Athani and its popularity means it is decked with sunbeds and umbrellas which you can rent, as well as being surrounded by some great beachside restaurants and taverns. Unlike other large and famous beaches, Porto Katsiki also has some great spots which are rather secluded and shaded, so if you prefer some privacy this still may be the beach for you. What makes the beach unique is the impressive backdrop of white cliffs, which Lefkada is famous for, as well as the beautiful landscape and views the beach offers.

The closest beach to Lefkada Town, this long beach stretches down the coast and is known for being windy. Therefore, you can offer to see people windsurfing or sailing in the ocean and is also an ideal area to try your hand at it yourself, with the ideal wind conditions. Or if you prefer to stay on land, you can also marvel at the old windmills you can see on the landscape from the sand which create a unique view. Being just a couple metres from the centre, anything you may need is only a short walk away.

Located next to the beautiful fishing village of Vassiliki, Vassiliki Beach is a beautiful bay which is very popular among tourists and therefore decked with every type of activity you would like. With the good wind conditions, windsurfing and sailing are great options for how to spend your time on the beach, however, you could also enjoy some of the other watersports such as snorkelling, or spend your time sunbathing on one of the many loungers and umbrellas on the beach. Surrounding the beach you will find all sorts of accommodations, taverns, restaurants and cafes which are the perfect places to rest after a long day at the beach.

Egremni Beach

Another great beach to visit is Egremni Beach, which is surrounded by barren cliffs which have made it one of the most photographed landscapes in the world. Both a pebble and sand beach, the beach is a long stretch of sand and a great place to spend the day with your family. The location of the beach means it is quite exclusive as it is difficult to get to, and so is not overcrowded like other beaches. You can access the beach easily by boat, or you can go down the newly created and safer stairs after the last stairs were destroyed in an earthquake and out of use from 2015-2021.

Agios Nikitas Beach

If you prefer a quiet experience, visit the secluded beach of Agios Nikitas Beach, located near the small fishing village of the same name. This hidden gem is a beautiful area which crystal clear water and is surrounded by vegetation and greenery, unlike some of the other beaches on the island, which creates a calmer atmosphere. While not as popular as some of the other beaches, it is still kitted out with some amazing facilities, and you can find some lovely taverns and restaurants nearby where you can enjoy the catch of the day.
